School’s out, so let the summer concerts begin in Fayetteville.  This Saturday night, classic progressive-rockers Kansas will get the 2014 concert series in Fayetteville kick started with their catalog of 70s and 80s hits. Opening for Kansas is Arc & Stones, a rising group on the modern music scene. A few tickets still remain for Kansas, and range from $25 – $35.  

Tickets to all shows are available via the website at SouthernGroundAmp.com and at the historic courthouse in downtown Fayetteville.

If you loved the disco era of the early 70s and the harmonic melodies of the mega group The Bee Gees, then you will love Night Fever at The Fred in Peachtree City tonight. Night Fever is the world’s number one production of the Bee Gees. This all Canadian cast from Toronto, Ontario, will take you back in time to one of the greatest bands in pop history. There are a limited number of tables available for the show on Saturday night, as well as reserved and lawn seating tickets. Gold and Belgard tables are $240 and seat six. Picnic tables are $210. Reserved seating is $30 and Lawn seats are $25. Tickets may be purchased online at www.amphitheater.org, at The Fred box office, or by calling 770-631-0630.

The MOMS Club of Fayetteville is hosting the Southern Nights Gala with cocktails, hors d’ oeuvres and a silent auction at the City Gardens at Southern Oaks located at 240 North Jeff Davis Drive in Fayetteville. The fundraising event to continue the Church Street Park project will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $35 per person and $65 per couple. Walk-up tickets will be limited. “Native Birds, Plants and Reptiles” is today from 10 a.m. to noon at the public meeting room at the Fayette County Administrative Complex . The cost for the class is $3. Jim Rogers, Nearly Native Nursery, will share information on our native plants and surroundings. Native plants are tough, versatile and more suitable to local water, soil and pest conditions. Many native plants also provide food for beautiful songbirds as well as hosts for many species of butterflies and moths. Once established, native plants can tough out drought and water restrictions that many other plants are unable to tolerate. Jim will also share information about birds and reptiles that we see around our area. Storytelling is today from  2 p.m. to  4 p.m. at the  Peachtree City Library. Peachtree City Friends of the Library and Southern Crescent Storytellers, a cluster group of the Southern Order of Storytellers will present Father Goose Brigade Storytelling of traditional nursery rhymes and folk tales, told by men and boys. The event is free for children of all ages, and refreshments will be served. The Georgia Renaissance Festival is today at  6905 Virlyn B. American Legion Fayette County Post 105 and Legion Auxiliary Unit 105 meet the second Monday of each month at the Log Cabin, 180 S. Glynn St, Fayetteville. Today is the annual picnic with no business planned   Knox Herndon will display his “American Values Traveling Museum”. The Greater Fayette Republican Women’s Club is holding its dinner meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Due South in Peachtree City. In honor of Flag Day, the guest speaker will be State Representative John Yates of Griffin, who has represented District 73 since 1993. Rep. Yates is a U.S. Army veteran of World War II who flew over 200 missions and was awarded six air medals and four battle stars. The Peachtree City Monopoly Tournament is today.  The event begins at 8:30 a.m. with registration begins and round 1 starts at 10 a.m. at Glendalough Manor, 200 Glendalough Court, Tyrone. The Sixth Annual Peachtree City Monopoly Tournament is an official Hasbro monopoly tournament open to ages 12 and over (exceptions considered on case-by-case basis). Last year the tournament had 100 contestants, with an average age of 31, coming from six different states and 17 cities across Georgia. The tournament is first and foremost for fun.
