Harriette Moore Foster, age 98, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children and grandchildren on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Doctor’s Hospice of Ga. in Fayetteville.
A resident of College Park for 96 years, Mrs. Foster was an active member of the community and of St. John’s Episcopal Church until her death. A charter member of Captain Thomas Cobb Chapter, NSDAR, she served as an officer, committee chairman, and member for over 55 years. Mrs. Foster was also a past member and officer of the College Park Woman’s Club, the College Park Service League, the College Park Historical Society, and the Horace Chase Guild at St. John’s; as well as, a past member of Chi Omega Fraternity, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
The daughter of James Wayne Moore, Sr. and Harriet Smith Mash, Harriette Louise Moore was born on May 16, 1916 in East Point. After graduating from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science degree, she worked as an elementary school teacher and as a bookkeeper until her marriage to Walter Price Foster in 1940.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her two brothers, James Wayne Moore, Jr. and Hamilton Frazer Moore.
Mrs. Foster is survived by her daughter, Harriette Foster Hankinson of Fayetteville; her son, Walter Price Foster, Jr. and his wife, Jane of Fayetteville; grandsons, Don Hankinson, Jr. and his wife, Stacy of Sharpsburg, Scott Hankinson of McDonough, Price Foster III, and Raymond Foster of Fayetteville; granddaughters, Jane Louise Foster of College Park and Andrea Hankinson of Fayetteville; great-grandsons, Gabriel and Mathew Hankinson of Sharpsburg; niece, Eileen Moore Patton and her husband, George of Fayetteville; and nephew, Frazer Moore, Jr. of New York.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 3480 Main Street, College Park, Ga. with Reverend Spenser Simrill and Reverend Donna Mote officiating. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery, 1680 Westview Drive, Atlanta, Ga. The processional will form inside Westview’s gate.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home at 135 Senoia Road, Peachtree City, Ga.
