The Fayette County School System’s Class of 2014 will be front and center for graduation ceremonies at the county’s five high schools Friday night.
Once they toss their hats in the air, more than 91 percent of all graduating seniors plan to go to either college or tech schools, according to figures supplied by the school system. Many of them will go on to post-secondary classes using part of the nearly $25 million in scholarship money awarded to students at the five high schools.

Graduation ceremonies at Fayette County High School will be held at 7 p.m. on May 23 at Tiger Stadium. Inclement weather will have graduation held on May 24 at 10 a.m. in the stadium.
The FCHS graduating class includes 283 students, of which 91 percent plan to enroll in post-secondary education. Of those 79 percent plan to attend a four-year school while 21 percent plan to attend a two-year school.
FCHS students were awarded $1,661,816 in scholarship money, excluding the HOPE scholarship, according to the school system.
Graduation ceremonies at Starr’s Mill High School will be held at 7 p.m. on May 23 at Panther Stadium. Inclement weather plans call for graduation to be held in the stadium on May 24 at 10 a.m. unless storms and lightning are present. In that case the ceremony will be held in the gym with a limit of four tickets per graduate.
The SMHS graduating class includes 389 students. Of those, 369 are planning to enroll in a four-year school, a two-year school or a technical school.
SMHS students were awarded approximately $7.5 million in scholarship money, excluding the HOPE scholarship.
Graduation ceremonies at McIntosh High School will be held at 7 p.m. on May 23 at the stadium. Inclement weather will have graduation held at the same location on May 24 at 10 a.m.
The MHS graduating class includes 387 students, with 95 percent planning to enroll in post-secondary schools.
MHS students were awarded $4 million in scholarship money, excluding the HOPE scholarship.
Graduation ceremonies at Sandy Creek High School will be held at 7 p.m. on May 23 at the Battlefield stadium. Inclement weather will have graduation held on May 24 at 9 a.m. in the stadium.
The SCHS graduating class includes 273 students, with 93 percent planning to enroll in a post-secondary school.
SCHS students were awarded $7.2 million in scholarship money, excluding the HOPE scholarship.
Graduation ceremonies at Whitewater High School will be held at 7 p.m. on May 23 at the school’s stadium. Inclement weather will have graduation held in the stadium at 10 a.m. on May 24.
The WHS graduating class includes 339 students, of which 92 percent are planning to enroll in a post-secondary school.
WHS students were awarded $4.5 million in scholarship money, excluding the HOPE scholarship.
