Golf teams tee off at state

Six local high school golf teams turned in top-10 finishes in the GHSA state tournament Monday at various courses in the Augusta area.

The Starr’s Mill Panthers tied for fifth with Creekview in AAAAA, as Greenbrier and Glynn Academy tied for first and Kell and Gainesville tied for third. Teeing off at Bartram Trail Golf Club, the Panthers were led by Andrew Bourg (70), Andrew Crockett (75), Parker Langham (80) and Fred Port (85).

The McIntosh Chiefs tied for ninth with Northgate, trailing Pope and North Atlanta. The Chiefs were led by David Bartels (76), Jackson Lawlor (79), James Flores (82) and Mitchell Matheny (86).

The Starr’s Mill Lady Panthers finished tenth at Jones Creek behind Morgan Kory (90), Jocelyn Gao (100), Mynah Holloway (110) and McKinna Fulmer (125). Cambridge won the title.

The AAAA girls squared off at Waynesboro Country Club and Columbus was the winner. The Fayette County Lady Tigers came in 15th, led by Meagan Lewis (102), Virginia Lambert (103), Jalisa Williams (118) and Jalen Williams (121).

The A Private boys tournament at Forest Hills Golf Club saw Brookstone emerge as the winner, with Landmark and Mt. Pisgah tied for fourth. On the course for the War Eagles were Jake Milanowski (73), Blake Watson (78), Hunter Hester (80), Graham Burson (80), Cody Chastain (87) and Sterling Dixon (90).

The girls competed at Goshen Plantation with Darlington taking the crown, while Landmark and Mt. Pisgah tied for second. The Lady War Eagles were led by Jordan Daniel (79), Sarah Reed (96), Emmy Swords (110) and Kenzie Johnson (114).
