The Economics Challenge team at Starr’s Mill High pulled out a close victory against Gwinnett County’s Parkview High School, defending their state championship title for the third consecutive year.

The team of Nicholas Britt, Austin O’Farrell, Logan Sidall and Lisa Tan clinched the championship with the correct answer on the last question at the state finals. Social studies teacher Mark DeCourcy is the team’s coach.

The state competition is part of the National Economics Challenge in which teams of students answer rigorous questions on microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics, and current events.

Starr’s Mill was one of 17 high school teams from across the state that gathered at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta on March 24 to participate in the Georgia competition. Competitors begin with a rigorous microeconomics test followed by a macroeconomics test, each taken individually. Student teams then take a group test on international economics. The top two scoring teams meet in the quiz bowl round to determine the overall winner.
