FAYETTE COUNTY

BASEBALL: Defeated Shaw 13-10. Alex Adorno had three hits with a two-run home run and Chris Jones had three hits with a grand slam. Kawaan Baker picked up the win and Josiah Good got the save.

TRACK: Won the girls’ Region 5-AAAA championship. The relay team of Lauren Newbold, Jessica Watkins, Shania Hall and Junior Chinyere Njoku took first place in the 4×100 and 4×400 relays. Njoku won the 100 and 300 hurdles and placed second in the shot put. Watkins won the long jump, was second in the 300 hurdles and third in the 100 hurdles. Newbold was second in the 100-meter dash and Lauren Oglesby was runnerup in the triple jump. It was the first time the Lady Tigers won a region track title since 1988.

LANDMARK

SOCCER: Defeated Strong Rock 2-1 (boys) to secure a first-round home playoff match as the second seed in the area. The girls downed Strong Rock 7-2 behind five goals by Rebecca Gravitt and is the third seed in the area, earning a state playoff spot.

McINTOSH

BASEBALL: Rebounded from a 5-4 loss to Northgate with a 7-3 win over Whitewater. Dane Bullock and Trey Walters had two hits apiece and Mike Dolak drove in two runs. Tre Hudak went the distance for the win and struck out three.

LACROSSE: Won a crucial area game 8-4 over Whitefield Academy (boys). The Chiefs were led on defense by Hank Morgan, who had 3 caused turnovers and 8 ground balls while scoring a goal on the offensive end. Sam Herman and Billy Magill each put in two goals. Patrick Anderson, Graham Davis and Caleb Sellars added a goal apiece. The team lost 10-7 to Lovett over the weekend.

SOCCER: Shut out Drew 8-0 (boys) with goals by Adam Sheikali, Chris Dognazzi (2), Didrik Cooper-Seip (3), Ian Berryman and Luke Mohney.

TRACK: The girls were fourth and the boys finished second in the Region 4-AAAAA championship meet. Top performances included Alyssa LeClaire in the 1600m (5:22.570) Taylor Huntley in the 800m (1:58.83), Connor Nash in the high jump and Travis Bertke in the shot put.

OUR LADY OF MERCY

BASEBALL: Split a doubleheader at Mt. Vernon, winning 3-2 and losing 8-6. Jordan Rachmann got the complete-game win in the opener, as the Bobcats trailed 2-0 in the seventh before a two-run double by Kevin Walker and an RBI single by Brian Freeman. Austin Loper and Aaron Ushery had two hits each. The Bobcats rallied in the nightcap with three seventh-inning runs but came up short.

SANDY CREEK

SOCCER: Split with Columbus, as the boys won 2-0 and the girls lost 5-0.

STARR’S MILL

LACROSSE: Defeated Grady 20-7 (girls). Katie Wilson had 4 interceptions and Mary Ellis Goins had 4 caused turnovers. Scoring was led by Anna Voso (4 goals), Alyssa Sack (3 goals), Jess Ward and Christine Landgren.

SOCCER: Fell 2-1 to Walton (girls) on the road to move to 14-3 on the season going into Tuesday’s game against McIntosh. Molly Moroney scored the team’s only goal in the seventh minute of the match. The boys downed Walton 1-0.

TENNIS: Won the Region 4-AAAAA tournament (girls) for the ninth straight year, defeating McIntosh 5-0 in the final round. Starr’s Mill was led with wins by Rachael Williams, Caroline Kelly and Erin Egoroff in singles along with the doubles teams of Kailey Inhulsen/Shannon McKillip and Mary Katherine Lloyd/Amanda Nima. The team did not lose a match in three rounds of play. The boys won the region tourney for the fourth straight year, with wins by Sebastian Schneider, Dubie Dubin, Shaaz Peerani, Noah McPherson, Chris Sellers, Cam Kelly, Andre Curiel and Ben Lee.

WHITEWATER

BASEBALL: Defeated Drew 8-5 and lost 7-3 to McIntosh.

SOCCER: Won 3-0 over LaGrange (girls). Emily Peterson scored two goals and Bella Millians added one, with assists from Aubrey Heard, Abby Smithwick and Peyton Lee. Claire Messina had seven saves in goal and Mary Ramsaier was cited for outstanding midfield play. In a 2-0 loss to East Coweta, Lee was the player of the game for shutting down several scoring opportunities for the opposition.
