John D. Ferrell, 77, of Fayetteville, Ga., but a native of Hapeville, passed away April 4, 2014. He was a Batallion Chief for the City of Atlanta Fire Department. He served his country in the U.S. Army doing Military Intelligence. He was an avid sports fan who loved his Atlanta Braves, Falcons, and the Georgia Bulldogs. In his spare time he enjoyed cultivating flowers and plants, golfing and fishing.
Mr. Ferrell was preceded in death by his wife Barbara (Head) Ferrell; his mother Dorothy Dye Nunn; brother William E. (Bill) Nunn and step-father John Paul (Peavy) Nunn. He is survived by his children Tracey Ferrell of Nashville, Dale Ferrell (Catherine Crosslin) of Newnan, Paul Ferrell (Stacey Nestor) of Macon, Kellie Stapleton (Leroy) of Rex; grandsons Turner Stapleton, Caymin Crosslin; cousins Diane Kirkland Williamson, Nick Kirkland, Kim Kirkland Kinsey, and Jan Kirkland Cochran.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville. Burial followed at Forest Hills Cemetery. The family received friends Monday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
