The focus on Forty Days For the Kingdom began Ash Wednesday at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church and will continue through Holy Week as congregants prepare for Easter through self-reflection, outreach, and a conscious focus to “let the kingdom of God come first.”
Sunday worship at 8:30, 9:45 and 11 a.m. each week has focused on something new — new creation, birth, church, eyes, and people. As the church begins Holy Week, the Palm Sunday reminder of a new king will be celebrated with a palm processional by the children at all services.
Lenten Lunches at noon each Thursday continue April 10 with Rev. Kristin Heiden and April 17 with Harold Benefield as they reflect on J. Ellsworth Kalas’ book “Easter from the Back Side.”
This year’s Lenten Study by Rev. Mark Westmoreland “The Kingdom’s Constitution: The Sermon on the Mount” includes sessions on April 9 and April 16 at 6:15 p.m.
The Lenten Offering collected throughout the season and presented Easter morning will help fund Stop Hunger Now and the church’s meal-packaging event to be held later this year. Stop Hunger Now meals go to children’s feeding programs and to people in crisis situations around the world.
Forty Days For the Kingdom will conclude Easter Morning with the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection at three services in the main sanctuary at 8:30, 9:45, and 11 a.m.
