Mrs. Gail Wasson Lyle, age 55, of Marietta, passed away Wednesday, February 26.

A celebration of her life will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, March 9 in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church of Smyrna followed by a reception of family and friends in the fellowship hall.

Gail was always known for having a deep compassion for those who were hurting and broken in spirit, especially when it concerned children and adolescents. This compassion grew even stronger as she taught 6th grade math and encountered the needs these young people have. It led her to further her education by receiving a Masters of Education Degree from Berry College, and then a degree as an Education Specialist, Counseling at West Georgia.

She was employed as a School Counselor at Stockbridge Elementary and then at Brookwood Elementary School in Dalton Ga. She wanted to do more in helping to meet the emotional and psychological needs of others so she went back to add to her Master’s Degree a Specialist Degree in Counseling. After receiving her license to practice marriage and family therapy she began private practice as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Fayetteville, and then in Dalton when her husband was transferred there. When they moved to Marietta Ga. she kept her practice in Dalton and then started a practice in Roswell Ga. and maintained both for several years. She became well respected by her peers for her work in individual and family therapy and began to accept invitations as a speaker and teacher as well as continuing to maintain her private practice. She was an Affiliate member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy and also a member of the American Counseling Association.

Gail is survived by her loving husband Steven Lyle, daughter Catherine Lyle, son Barrett Lyle, her mother and father Theron and Grace Wasson, two sisters, Vivian Carey, her husband Charles and Patricia Jones and her husband Scott. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the Gail Wasson Lyle Memorial Fund has been established and donations can be made payable to the Smyrna First United Methodist Church and marked GWL Memorial Fund. Donations to this fund will be used to meet the special needs of adolescents in need of psychological and emotional support.

Carmichael Funeral Home Smyrna is in charge of arrangements.
