Residents in the area of southwest Newnan should soon be experiencing better cell phone coverage. The Coweta County Commission voted unanimously on Feb.18 to approve a rezoning request that will locate an AT&T cell tower on a 10-acre site off 179 Old Corinth Road.

The 150-foot monopine tower surrounded by a chain-link fence will be located 524 feet off Old Corinth Road within the 10-acre site. The rezoning request asked for special use approval for a section of the property totaling .1125 acres.

Project representatives at the meeting said the tower would provide coverage for 1.5-2 miles, adding that the closest tower is 1.6 miles away.

The new tower will accommodate cell phone equipment of up to six additional cell phone providers.
