“Love Letters,” by A.R. Promise Place is hosting its first ever Improv Comedy night tonight at 6:30 p.m. titled “Promise You’ll Laugh”. The event is at the Legacy Theatre in Tyrone. A professional improvisational group from Atlanta will entertain the audience with 100 percent of the proceeds directly benefitting Promise Place. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase for $30 in advance or $35 at the door. The Fayette County Public Library and the Friends of the Fayette County Public Library welcome the community to the 16th Annual Blended Heritage Celebration, a free evening of performing arts entertainment at the Fayette County Public Library at 7 p.m. As always, the Blended Heritage Celebration is open to all, free of charge.
“Free to Be” is the unifying theme of this year’s event. The evening’s agenda includes poetry by Collin Kelly; vocal and instrumental music from such diverse artists as Gladius, Alesia Snipes Sanders, Al Guitar Breeze, Phil Frieder, and Chrystn White; storytelling and drumming by Jason Louder and company; and a little something extra to delight young and old alike. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Fayette County Republican Party first Saturday breakfast/meeting is today at its headquarters at 174 Glynn St. In Fayetteville. Today at 5 p.m. is the deadline for submitting poems to the 4th Annual Poetry Contest sponsored by the Friends of the Peachtree City Library. Prizes of $100 will be awarded in each of three categories: students in Grades 1—6; students in Grades 7—12; and adults. Winners and honorable mentions will be published in a book and will receive a copy of the book, which will also be sold on Amazon. Students may submit one poem without having to pay an entry fee; additional poems and entries by adults require a $10 entry fee. Additional rules apply, and will be sent along with the entry form. Fayette County 4-H Camp registration is today. Fayette County 4-H is already preparing for an awesome week of 4-H summer camp at Rock Eagle 4-H Center. This camp offers current 5th and 6th graders the chance to spend a week hiking, swimming, learning, playing, and having the time of their life. Camp is at Rock Eagle 4-H Center on July 7 to 11 and the cost is $330. Registration is from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Extension Office in the Stonewall Complex in Fayetteville. The Southern Crescent Chorale will make their ninth appearance at Spivey Hall at 8 p.m. The concert entitled “Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs” will feature many choral favorites including Wilberg’s “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, “Thompson’s “Alleluia,” Christiansen’s “Psalm 50” and a large number of spirituals including Moses Hogan’s “I Can Tell the World,” “We Shall Walk Through the Valley in Peace,” and “Wade in the Water.” Other favorite spirituals include “My God Is A Rock,” “Ain’t Got Time to Die,” “Deep River,” and Ezekiel “Saw duh Wheel.”This concert will be presented in memory of Dr. Amy Adele Foster, gifted performer, educator and former accompanist for the Chorale. Piedmont Newnan Hospital, along with Piedmont Fayette Hospital, Piedmont Physicians and Piedmont Heart, will host its annual “Healthy Heart Fair” from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Piedmont Francis Way location in Sharpsburg. Participants will be able to take advantage of free health screenings, including blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), cholesterol and glucose screenings, and they will also have the opportunity to consult with clinicians and hospital staff about disease prevention, fitness maintenance and tips to improve health and well-being. Run for the Gold is today at Oak Grove Elementary School. The warm-up begins at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K uns begin at 8 a.m., while the one mile walk steps off at 8:05 p.m.

Our Genealogy Group will hold its annual All Day Workshop for Beginners from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This genealogy workshop for beginners is free, but you must RSVP.
