“Love Letters,” by A.R. Gurney is showing at the Newnan Community Theatre Company at 8 p.m. The play tells the story of the relationship between two people, troubled rich girl Melissa Gardner and the politically ambitions Andrew Makepeace Ladd, III. They are friends in childhood, and as their lives progress, they go off to different boarding schools, try their hands at romance, and go on with their lives. Promise Place is hosting its first ever Improv Comedy night  tonight  at 6:30 p.m. titled “Promise You’ll Laugh”. The event is at the Legacy Theatre in Tyrone. A professional improvisational group from Atlanta will entertain the audience with 100 percent of the proceeds directly benefitting Promise Place. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase for $30 in advance or $35 at the door. The Fayette County Public Library and the Friends of the Fayette County Public Library welcome the community to the 16th Annual Blended Heritage Celebration, a free evening of performing arts entertainment at the Fayette County Public Library at 7 p.m. As always, the Blended Heritage Celebration is open to all, free of charge.
“Free to Be” is the unifying theme of this year’s event. The evening’s agenda includes poetry by Collin Kelly; vocal and instrumental music from such diverse artists as Gladius, Alesia Snipes Sanders, Al Guitar Breeze, Phil Frieder, and Chrystn White; storytelling and drumming by Jason Louder and company; and a little something extra to delight young and old alike. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Fayette County Republican Party first Saturday breakfast/meeting is today at its headquarters at  174 Glynn St. In Fayetteville. Continental breakfast will be available for purchase at 8:30 a.m. The meeting begins at  9 a.m. The group will have a review and discussion of Fayette County’s district voting. Public Service Commissioner Candidate
Doug Kidd and Dr. Mary Kay Bacallao state Superintendent of Education candidate will speak. She will speak on the crucial issues facing the next  state school superintendent.

Today at 5 p.m. is the deadline for submitting poems to the 4th Annual Poetry Contest sponsored by the Friends of the Peachtree City Library. Prizes of $100 will be awarded in each of three categories: students in Grades 1—6; students in Grades 7—12; and adults. Winners and honorable mentions will be published in a book and will receive a copy of the book, which will also be sold on Amazon. Students may submit one poem without having to pay an entry fee; additional poems and entries by adults require a $10 entry fee. Additional rules apply, and will be sent along with the entry form. The PALS Pageant is today at 6 p.m. at 6 p.m. at Duke Auditorium at Starr’s Mill High School. The organization helps foster relationships between students with and without disabilities. Admission is free, although donations are accepted. For more information, visit www.smhaspals.webs.com.

Fayette County 4-H Camp registration is today.  Fayette County 4-H is already preparing for an awesome week of 4-H summer camp at Rock Eagle 4-H Center. This camp offers current 5th and 6th graders the chance to spend a week hiking, swimming, learning, playing, and having the time of their life.  Camp is at Rock Eagle 4-H Center on July 7 to 11 and the cost is $330.  Registration is from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Extension Office in the Stonewall Complex in Fayetteville.  Space is very limited and spots are assigned first come first serve!   More information on how to register and a camp video are available at  www.ugaextension.com/fayette/4H/ under camp on the right menu, or you can call the Fayette County Extension Office at 770-305-5412, ext.7.

The Southern Crescent Chorale will make their ninth appearance at Spivey Hall at 8 p.m.  The concert entitled “Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs” will feature many choral favorites including Wilberg’s “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, “Thompson’s “Alleluia,” Christiansen’s “Psalm 50” and a large number of spirituals including Moses Hogan’s “I Can Tell the World,” “We Shall Walk Through the Valley in Peace,” and “Wade in the Water.”  Other favorite spirituals include “My God Is A Rock,” “Ain’t Got Time to Die,” “Deep River,” and Ezekiel “Saw duh Wheel.”This concert will be presented in memory of Dr. Amy Adele Foster, gifted performer, educator and former accompanist for the Chorale.  She died on January 8th after a long battle with cancer. Piedmont Newnan Hospital, along with Piedmont Fayette Hospital, Piedmont Physicians and Piedmont Heart, will host its annual “Healthy Heart Fair” from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Piedmont Francis Way location in Sharpsburg. Participants will be able to take advantage of free health screenings, including blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), cholesterol and glucose screenings, and they will also have the opportunity to consult with clinicians and hospital staff about disease prevention, fitness maintenance and tips to improve health and well-being. In addition, free healthy heart educational materials, fitness and cooking demonstrations will be provided by Live Better Coweta and Fayette. Registration is required for the free health screenings. The Flat Creek Ladies Golf Association Welcome Breakfast is today. Join a lively group of women for 18 holes of golf on Tuesdays beginning March 4 with our “Welcome Breakfast” at 9 am at Flat Creek Country Club in Peachtree City.  Membership requirement are:

Tuesday Play Days begin March 11 and end Nov. 11 with 9 a.m. shotgun starts.  You are not required to play every single play date; only play as often as you wish to play. The Peachtree City Garden Club will host its monthly meeting today at The Bridge Community Center in Peachtree City. The Metro South Regional Transition Council, an eight county collaborative (including Fayette) will host a Life After High School Conference and Expo for students with disabilities and their families today. An AARP Drivers Safety Class is today at the Powell Library on Hospital Road in Newnan.  The class will teach defensive driving techniques and may just save you a pretty penny on car insurance!  The class is from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.   The cost of the class is $15 for AARP mbrs. and $20 for non mbrs. Run for the Gold is today at Oak Grove Elementary School. The warm-up begins at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K uns begin at 8 a.m., while the one mile walk steps off at 8:05 p.m.
All 5K run and 1-mile run/walk participants will receive a cotton T-shirt.  5K awards will be given to the top three male/female winners of each age group. Top male/female per grade level will receive awards for the one mile, as well as overall and masters. For more information, visit oges.org.

Our Genealogy Group will hold its annual All Day Workshop for Beginners from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This genealogy workshop for beginners is free, but you must RSVP. Only the first 50 are guaranteed a seat. Please RSVP to ourgenealogygroup@gmail.com. They will be unable to accommodate those who do not RSVP.  The workshop will be held  at Clayton State University in room UC265 of the James M. Baker University Center. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The first half of the day will feature speakers. After lunch the workshop will head across the hall to the Clayton State Library to utilize the free genealogy programs offered by the University. Attendees will also learn which of the programs are available to use free at home via the University website.

Robert J. Burch Elementary will be having its fourth annual Burch Bear Tracks today at 8 a.m. and includes Tot Trot, Mile Fun Run, and a 5K race. The primary goal for this event is to promote health and wellness through fitness as well as raise money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in their effort to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. The secondary goal is to fund Burch’s running club in which hundreds of students participate.
