Todd says this is his last year on BoE

Fayette County Board of Education member Bob Todd, an educator since 1958 and on the school board for 12 years, is calling it quits after this year.

Todd at the Monday school board meeting announced that he will not qualify for another term for his Post 4 seat.

“Fifty-six years ago I entered Thomson High School as a freshman teacher. My journey in public education has been truly remarkable,” Todd said at the beginning of his brief remarks Monday night. ”My term with public education will end on Dec. 31.”

Todd said 34 of his years, both on staff and as a school board member, have been spent in Fayette County.

Todd spoke highly of the school system and its successful efforts to make continuous improvements over the past decades. He also spoke about the impact of the community in the education process.

“You can’t ask for better public support than what you’ve got in Fayette County,” Todd said.

Besides serving on the school board for 12 years, he worked with the Fayette County School System from 1980 until 1994 as the Director of Secondary Education for administration, curriculum and instruction for middle and high schools.

Todd began teaching in 1958 and over the decades was named Outstanding Georgia Educator in both special education and curriculum and instruction.

“It’s been a good journey and a marvelous journey,” said Todd. “I’ve been blessed.”
