Lt. Col. Johnny W. Kelley, U.S. Army retired of Fayetteville passed away January 12, 2014.
Col. Kelley graduated from Fayette County High School and North GA College. He served a combined 28 years in the infantry, field artillery, anti aircraft artillery, finance corps, and civil affairs units of the U.S. Army, during WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam War.
Col. Kelley’s hobbies include golfing, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a long time member of the Military Officers Association and the New Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years Mrs. Sara Humphries Kelley; sons John W. Kelley and wife Carolyn Annette and Michael Kelley and wife Shawn; daughter Karen Elaine LaSalata and husband Anthony; grandchildren Matthew & Lisa Kelley, Sara & Dusty Bright, Andrea & John Schwarz, Shane & Sally Anne Short, Kelly & Tammy Short, and Ashley & Phillip Saunders; and numerous great grandchildren; brother George Marlin Kelley and wife Geri; sisters Daisy Brown and Ruby Gann; sister in law Eridene Kelley.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville. Chapel Rev. Wally Woodcock will officiate. The burial will follow at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday prior to the service.
