One major change is on the horizon for high school sports in Fayette County with the adoption of the Georgia High School Association’s new classifications for 2014-2016.
The changes, which take place every two years, were scheduled to be voted on yesterday in Macon after final appeals were heard. None of the Fayette schools appealed.
McIntosh and Starr’s Mill will remain in Region 4-AAAAA, which will still be divided into subregions. Their rivals in Subregion A will be Northgate, Morrow, Mundy’s Mill, Drew and Forest Park. In
Subregion B will be Woodland, Ola, Union Grove, Dutchtown, Stockbridge and Luella.
Whitewater is moving down to Region 5-AAAA, joining Fayette County and Sandy Creek, who have been in that region this season. Their region opponents will be Carrollton, Pike County, Troup and Woodward Academy.
Landmark and Our Lady of Mercy will remain in Region 5-A, which next year will be divided into subregions. Along with them in Subregion B are Drew Charter, ELCA, Elite Scholars Academy, Greenforest Christian, Paideia and Strong Rock.
The teams in Subregion A are Atlanta International, Ben Franklin, Dekalb Arts, Fulton Leadership Academy, Galloway, Mt. Vernon Presbyterian, SW Atlanta Christian, W.D. Mohammed and Yeshiva.
