John Curtis Roy, 95, of Fayetteville, Ga. passed away on December 26, 2013 following a period of declining health.
Mr. Roy was born in Charleston, W.Va. to the late John Curtis Roy and the late Bess Shea Roy.
He was a 1940 graduate of Georgia Tech and then served in the Army during World War II. He spent his working career in finance at Lockheed in Marietta, Ga. While living in Marietta, he was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Marietta, the American Legion and the 40 and 8 Society. Upon retirement from Lockheed, he became a world traveler. After relocating to Peachtree City, Ga. in 1996, he was active in the Ad Loy Ho Sunday School Class at PTC United Methodist Church and the Golden K Kiwanis Club.
In 2005 he was preceded in death by Sara Andrew Roy, his wife of 66 years.
Mr. Roy is survived by his wife of 6 years, Laura L. Roy of Greenville, S.C. Other survivors include sons John C. Roy (Julia) of Charlotte, N.C. and James A. Roy (Barbara) of Fayetteville, Ga.; grandchildren Teresa R. Tidwell (Billy) of Columbia, S.C., LCDR Andrew T. Roy (Katie) of Kailua, Hawaii and Elizabeth A. Roy of Atlanta, Ga.; step grandchildren Sven E. Wallin of Wilmington, N.C. and Dane J. Wallin of Raleigh, N.C; great grandchildren William A. Tidwell, Benjamin T. Tidwell and Aidan J. Roy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Methodist Children’s Home, 500 S. Columbia Drive, Decatur, Ga. 30030.
A memorial service will be held at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home in Peachtree City, Ga. on January 11th at 4 p.m. with visitation at 3 p.m. Rev. Sean Robinson will officiate.
