Mr. Walter William Berg, age 47 of Griffin, Ga., passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2013 while participating in the annual Altamaha River Partnership’s Ride for the River.
Walter Berg was born in Rockford, Ill. on December 21, 1965.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Berg and Judith Jansen Berg, and by his sister, Angela Hernandez.
Walter graduated from West Point United States Military Academy in 1988. He served in the United States Army following graduation as an Army Ranger and saw combat during Desert Storm. His current employer was Eaton’s Cooper Lighting. One of Walter’s favorite activities was cycling and participating in charity events. Another passion of Walter’s was supporting his son’s goals and endeavors. Walter was a dedicated member of Griffin First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his beloved son, Mitchell Berg; sisters and brothers, Lisa Tye, Michael Berg, Margo Worrall, Joseph Berg and Catherine Berg; the mother of his child, Lynn Berg; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other family.
Visitation for Mr. Walter William Berg was on Saturday, November 23, 2013 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 24, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Griffin First United Methodist Church. Dr. Ned Roache will officiate. In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family has arranged for an educational fund on behalf of Mitchell Berg, located at First National Bank, 318 South Hill St., Griffin, Ga., 30224, 770-227-2251.
