Odyssey Charter School in Newnan, in association with Special Olympics of Coweta County, is bringing their
Fall Festival and Haunted House to Ashley Park. The Fall Festival is today from noon to 9 p.m. in the parking lot near Firehouse Subs. The Haunted House will be open Oct. 18, 19,
25, 26, and the week of Halloween (Oct. 28th-31st) each evening from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.. Proceeds from these events will benefit Special Olympics and Odyssey Charter School. Organizers have added live family-friendly entertainment with a variety of musicians like Amberson
Baggett Band and vocalists entertaining throughout the Festival. There will be a silent auction, an iPad raffle and over 30 local artisans and vendors on hand, offering a variety of activities, food and products.
Armbands are just $10 and will include all Fall Festival events and activities (except for the Haunted House).

The Fayette County Public Library invites poets age 15 to adult to present their work at an Open Mic Matinee at 1 p.m. Following the performance will be a reception featuring book signings by Sara De Luca and Pat Butler, two Fayette County poets recently published by Finishing Line Press. To ensure a quality program everyone can enjoy and give all eligible parties a chance to participate, some rules have been established. Poets must perform only their own original work. Both verse poems and prose poems (spoken word) are allowed. Each poet may perform no more than two pieces, for a maximum of five minutes. No musical accompaniment will be allowed. All material must be suitable for a family audience (G- or PG-rated). Participants are asked to use good judgment and show respect for the audience and for fellow poets when planning their performances. Library staff reserves the right to interrupt readings that go overtime or violate the rules in any way.
Please note that this year there will be no advance registration. Poets will perform in the order they sign in at the door. Poet sign-in begins at 12:30 p.m. on October 19.
Admission to the program and reception is free and the public is invited to attend. The annual “House of Clues” event will be hosted by the Optimist Club of Peachtree City in conjunction with the Peachtree City’s Fire Department Haunted House. The non-scary “House of Clues” is based on the board game “Clue” with children going from room to room collecting clues to solve the mystery of who did it, in which room, with what! Children participate in “fun” activities and collect prizes in each room. Children are guided through the rooms by “Detectives” from our Starr’s Mill High School Octagon Club & Peachtree City Youth Council.
The House of Clues is for children ages 3 years to 10 years and the cost is $5.per child. Parents are free and encouraged to participate with their children. The event will be held at the Peachtree City Fire House #81 at 110 Paschall Rd. and opens at 7 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. The Optimist Club will also provide a concession stand with hot dogs, chips, soft drinks and homemade hot apple cider. Marines faithfully celebrate the birth of their Corps (Nov. 10, 1775) throughout the world each year. Locally, the Coweta and Fayette Sergeant Clyde Thomason Medal of Honor Detachment (#1325) of the Marine Corps League has held a birthday ball celebration for members and their guests since their inception four years ago.
This year the detachment would like to invite the public to join them.

A highlight of the event is the traditional and ceremonial cutting of the Marine Corps birthday cake with a Marine sword.
