Patriots win big, Tigers notch 1st victory

Sandy Creek 49, Shaw 0: In a Thursday night game in Columbus, the Patriots (5-0-1, 3-0) took a big halftime lead and closed it out with 28 third-quarter points. Eric Swinney scored three touchdowns of 55 yards or more with two runs and a pass from Trey Walker. Delvin Weems ran for two scores, Maceo Brown added a touchdown run, and Demarre Kitt caught a touchdown pass from Cole Garvin. The Patriots host Alexander next Friday.

Landmark 34, Strong Rock 12: Playing on the road, the War Eagles (7-0, 3-0) opened a 28-0 lead and cruised to victory. Cody Chastain ran for two touchdowns, while Will Higbie and Aaron Burtz also scored on the ground. Stockton McGuire threw a touchdown pass to Sam Dobbs. The War Eagles host Pace Academy next Friday.

Fayette County 40, Columbus 6: The Tigers (1-5, 1-2) picked up a big region victory at home in a battle of winless teams. They play at LaGrange next Friday.

Our Lady of Mercy 14, Holy Innocents’ 7: The Bobcats (2-4, 2-1) kept themselves in the hunt in the region and travel to ELCA next Friday.

Starr’s Mill was off this week. The Panthers host McIntosh next Friday.
