The Greater Fayette Republican Women’s Club will sponsor a Local Candidate Meet and Greet  today at 6:30pm.  The event will be held at Fayetteville’s Historic Train Depot, 250 Lanier Avenue East. Candidates for local offices in the non-partisan election have been invited to give a brief speech.  Following the speeches, the candidates will be available to talk with constituents. It’s a weekend filled with breathtaking aerial stunts, roaring jet trucks, helicopter rides and a hushed crowd anticipating the next daredevil dive towards earth.  The Great Georgia Airshow will return to the skies over Fayette County October 11-13, 2013. Spring Hill Elementary in Fayetteville, GA will hold the 2nd Annual Trash Dash 5K Race today at 6:30 p.m. with a 1 Mile Fun Run at 6 p.m. Every one that registers before September 27 will receive a T-shirt and refreshments will be provided for runners after the race. The first place male and female finishers will win a $50 gift certificate to Play It Again Sports. The top three 5K age-group winners will receive event awards. Door prizes will also be awarded! Registration is $25 and closes 30 minutes prior to race start. If running is not your thing, no worries!! You can be a Phantom Runner for only $15 and still receive a T-shirt! Stardust Ballroom Dance Club will host a Halloween Ballroom Dance with a free hour of lessons today.Dance music & lighting by DJ Bill Mitchell. Admission is $25 per couple and $15per single. 9th annual Lisa’s Ride is today from noon to 1 p.m. (registration begins at 10:30 a.m.) Big Daddy’s Oyster Bar & Pub, 101 Crossing East, Peachtree City. All proceeds go to raise awareness and advocacy for suicide prevention. The event will include a display o Lifekeepers “Faces of Suicide” quitls, raffle prizes and a live auction. A free oil change for single mothers and widows is today.
 We realize that single mothers are especially challenged in many ways, including car care. They have to do so much for their families that sometimes car maintenance slips through the cracks. Plus, the cost can add up. Our annual National Service Initiative is our way to give back to our neighbors and our community, and to show these hard working women some extra love. The community is invited to enjoy a night of mystery as the fine arts students of Flat Rock Middle host a masquerade ball to raise funds for the school’s band, orchestra, choral and art programs. The ball will take place October from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Sandy Creek High School. Tickets are $20 for students and $25 for adults. The theme for the evening is “black and white.” Masquerade masks will be available for purchase at the ball.
Participants will enjoy performances from the Flat Rock Middle orchestra and band, as well as disc jockey sound mixes and catered hors d’ oeuvres.

A model railroad open house is today from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. You are invited to view the HO version of The  
Pittsburgh Union Railroad.  The layout is in multiple rooms covering 39 X 26  
feet.  Bridges, tunnels, mountains, extensive landscaping, and over 80 feet  of industrial, city, and country mural set the theme for the design.  Watch  
multiple locomotives from the steam and diesel era traverse the rails, all  digitally controlled. Professional RR engineers and operators are on hand  
to answer your questions. The open house is at 162 Interlochen Drive in Peachtree City

Fayetteville residents Dale Niles and Donna Rosser present “Double Exposure” at Dogwood Gallery in Tyrone. Niles and Rosser share their unique vision. A car wash is today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of Christ the King Church, 4881 Highway 34 East, between Peachtree City and Newnan. There is no charge for the car wash but donations will be accepted to assist the children of Rodney Bradberry. Bradberry, 32, was killed in a car wreck in September. Bradberry left behind four young children, two daughters and two step-sons. Bradberry was a member of the Newnan Chapter of the Iron Order Motorcycle Club, the world’s largest law abiding motorcycle club. Save a life – give blood! Odyssey Charter School in Newnan, in association with Special Olympics of Coweta County, is bringing their
Fall Festival and Haunted House to Ashley Park. The Fall Festival is today from noon to 9 p.m. in the parking lot near Firehouse Subs. The Haunted House will be open Oct. 18, 19,
25, 26, and the week of Halloween (Oct. 28th-31st)  each evening from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.. Proceeds from these events will benefit Special Olympics and Odyssey Charter School. Organizers have added live family-friendly entertainment with a variety of musicians like Amberson
Baggett Band and vocalists entertaining throughout the Festival. There will be a silent auction, an iPad raffle and over 30 local artisans and vendors on hand, offering a variety of activities, food and products.
Armbands are just $10 and will include all Fall Festival events and activities (except for the Haunted House).
Children 2 and under are free and children under 15 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.The Haunted House is located between DSW Shoes and GameStop and is run by Special Olympics and

The Hogansville Charitable Trust and West Georgia Physicians present Hogansville’s 16th annual Hummingbird Festival today.  Free and open to the public, the festival features arts and crafts booths, demonstrating artists, music, entertainment, children’s rides, and a large food court full of Southern and international favorites. The Hummingbird Festival will be in downtown Hogansville.

The Fayette Humane Society will hold a yard sale today from 9 a.m. -3 p.m. at Tack Trolley Horse & Pet Supply – Hwy 85 – Fayetteville.

The annual “House of Clues” event will be hosted by the Optimist Club of Peachtree City in conjunction with the Peachtree City’s Fire Department Haunted House. The non-scary “House of Clues” is based on the board game “Clue” with children going from room to room collecting clues to solve the mystery of who did it, in which room, with what!  Children participate in “fun” activities and collect prizes in each room.  Children are guided through the rooms by “Detectives” from our Starr’s Mill High School Octagon Club & Peachtree City Youth Council.
The House of Clues is for children ages 3 years to 10 years and the cost is $5.per child.  Parents are free and encouraged to participate with their children.  The event will be held at the Peachtree City Fire House #81 at 110 Paschall Rd. and opens at 7 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. The Optimist Club will also provide a concession stand with hot dogs, chips, soft drinks and homemade hot apple cider.  All funds raised from the event will stay in Peachtree City/Fayette County to help the “Youth”.  For more information contact: Nancy Britton at 770-301-7588 or Terry Ernst at 404-798-3789
