Hazel L. Fretwell, 83, of Fayetteville, born in Atlanta, Ga. 5/1/1930, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013.
She was a beloved cook, well known by all of her friends and family for her amazing array of pies, cakes and candies, especially around Christmas. She was a true southern cook who cooked with the intention of using it as a tool to show love, grace and hospitality around her lovely table. She always had kind words, infusing love in all she cooked and did. She loved football and a good party to accompany the game. She was quick witted with a great sense of humor, making her guests feel welcome and at ease and she loved to dance. She leaves behind a legacy of gracious hospitality, joy and love.
She was preceded in death by her husband Cliff Fretwell; sister Helen Meister; parents Grover Meister and Agnes Tillman; step-father Sonny Tillman; son Sandy Bennett, son-in-law John Gronner and great-granddaughter Gracelyn Barnes.
She is survived by her daughter Deborah Gronner of Peachtree City; step son Rick (Joy) Fretwell of Locust Grove; grandchildren Angela (Matt) Stryker of Snellville, Loni Bryant of Peachtree City, Melanie (Bill) Reeves of Newnan, Sally (Tom) Wilson of Fayetteville, Abby (Brian) Barnes of Olympia, Wash., Kate Barber of Oahu, Hawaii, John Fretwell of Locust Grove, Cliff (Stephanie) Fretwell of McDonough; great-grandchildren Emma, Valerie, Jack, Kinsey, Abigail, Eli, Rachael, Malia, Alyssa, Julia, Cameron and Anthony; sisters Eloise Bowen of Atlanta and Betty Jo (Jamie) Williams of Montana and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Peachtree City. Dr. David Miller and Reverend Sandi Wilmesherr will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 until 2:30 p.m.
