The Episcopal Church of the Nativity in Fayetteville will sponsor its fifth annual Blessing of the Animals and Pet Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, to benefit the Fayette County Humane Society.
The event will be held at the Fayette County office complex at the corner of Stonewall and Glynn streets in downtown Fayetteville in honor of St. Francis of Assisi Day. Activities planned are animal demonstrations and pet contests, a petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, music, food, fun, prizes and surprises. The Humane Society will have animals in need of homes that can be adopted on the spot.
Boy and Girl Scouts will assist with events. There will be no admission charge, although food items like hot dogs, popcorn and cotton candy will be on sale, along with a variety of pet and non–pet items
Maxine White-Levy, coordinator, said a show ring will feature dog tricks, obedience demonstrations, and “K-9 Unit” police dogs that sniff out contraband in airport shipments.
Special contests will select the smallest, largest, best costumed and possibly pets in other categories.
The Rev. Rita Henault, rector of Church of the Nativity, will bless pets every hour on the hour from noon to 3 p.m. at the county office parking lot gazebo.
