The Peachtree City Police Department will host its National Night Out crime prevention event on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at the Drake Field and City Hall area from 6-8 p.m.

There will be plenty to see, particularly for local children, from fire ladder trucks, helicopters, police vehicles and other equipment on display. There will also be an incentive-based scavenger hunt for kids with prizes.

National Night Out is designed to heighten awareness of ways to prevent crime and drug abuse, generate support for anti-crime programs, and to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.

National Night Out is also about sending a message to criminals, letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime.

This year’s local event is sponsored by the Peachtree City Police Department. For information on how to participate, contact Lt. Mark Brown at mbrown@peachtree-city.org or at 770-632-4112.

Last year’s National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.  In all, over 36 million people participated in National Night Out 2012.
