Christ the King Church in Sharpsburg, just west of Peachtree City, will celebrate its 17th anniversary as a congregation on Sunday, Sept. 8.

The church began with 19 people in a living room in Sharpsburg and soon moved to the chapel of Carmichael-Hemperly Funeral Home in Peachtree City, where services were held for over six years.

Property was acquired on Ga. Hwy. 34 near Sharpsburg and, in 2002, the sanctuary was built.

Six years later, the Parish Life Center, which includes a fellowship hall, kitchen, five classrooms, and restrooms, was constructed.

Over the years, four of the church’s clergy, all ordained at Christ the King, have left to serve as pastors of their own churches.

In 2007, when the church’s founding pastor, Father David Epps, was elected as the Bishop of the Diocese of the Mid-South, the church became the Cathedral church of the diocese. Epps is still the church’s pastor.

The church is located on Ga. Hwy. 34 between Peachtree City and Newnan. Services are at 8:30 and 10 a.m.
