Julia Anne Burks, 81, of Fayetteville, passed away on August 21, 2013.

She was a graduate of Brown High School in Atlanta, a graduate of UGA with a B.A. degree; and a graduate of UWG with a Masters in Eduation. She taught school in Atlanta Public Schools for 40+ years, was a member of the Baptist church as a young girl and later became a member of the Presbyterian church. She was a member of Native Atlantan Club and The Summit. Mrs. Burks was a former member of East Point Presbyterian Church and a member of Kappa Kappa Iota. She was a member of Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Guild, past president of Presbyterian Women, a member of The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary and a member of the Red Hat Society of Dixie Deb’s Chapter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” E. Burks.

She is survived by her sons, James “Alan” (Lori) Burks of Fayetteville and William Andrew “Andy” Burks of Fayetteville; and grandchild, Branden James Burks of Fayetteville.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, Forest Park. Mrs. Burks will lie in state from 1:30 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Rev. Roosevelt Winfrey and Rev. Martin Hudgins will officiate. The burial will follow at the Philadelphia Presbyterian Cemetery.

The family received friends Friday, August 23, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
