The public is invited to an open house Thursday to learn about the planned widening of McDonough Road between Ga. Highway 54 east of Fayetteville to U.S. Highway 19 north of Hampton.
The open house will be held from 5-7 p.m. at Lovejoy High School at 1587 McDonough Road in Lovejoy. No formal presentation is planned, but Georgia Department of Transportation representatives will be on hand to provide insight and hear the concerns and thoughts of the public.
Displays about the project will also be available for the public to scrutinize, officials said.
The 5.78 mile project involves widening the existing two lanes to four lanes with a 20-foot raised concrete median and bike lanes, DOT officials said.
Anyone unable to attend the open house may send project comments to Glenn Bowman, P.E. State Environmental Administrator, Georgia DOT, 600 West Peachtree Street NW, 16th Floor, Atlanta, Ga. 30308. All comments will be considered and must be received by July 25, officials said.
Following the event, handouts from the meeting will be made available online by visiting the DOT’s website at www.dot.ga.gov and selecting “information center” then “public information” then “public outreach.”
Any persons with disabilities wishing to attend the open house may seek special arrangements in advance by calling Vicky Gavalas, district planning and programming engineer at 770-986-1258.
