Frances Cromer Meek, 93, of Fayetteville, formerly of Macon, joined her beloved husband Guy and a host of other friends and relatives in Heaven on Monday, June 17, 2013.

Frances was born in Ideal, Ga. Starting school when she was 4 years old, Frances graduated from 2 years of Business College and used her superb organizational skills in a variety of settings. In her early years she worked at Warner Robins Air Force Base for the Comptroller General. She later became employed by the Bibb County Board of Education in various capacities, finally serving as Registrar for Southwest High School in Macon. She loved her McEvoy girls and her Willingham Rams!

During her life, Frances was loving and productive every day. She was never one to let grass grow under her feet. From Sunday School teacher, MYF leader, to Brownie and Girl Scout leader, to Garden Club President, to PTA President, to United Methodist Women President, to Red Cross worker, church board, etc., Frances lived life to the fullest. Frances served her community in many capacities, always trying to give of herself to others by serving and volunteering in her community and elsewhere. Her spiritual gift was that of a servantís heart and unless she was helping someone she didnít feel fulfilled.

Frances learned her love of the land from growing up on a farm in Ideal, Ga. and she never lost that yearning to be outside in God’s world. She loved digging in the dirt and was known for her green thumb. She could always be found in her yard amongst her beautiful flowers and vegetable gardens. In addition, she was always the proverbial teacher. She continued to teach anyone she came in contact with and never lost her desire for life long learning. She had a keen interest in current events, reading and good Southern cooking. Her table was always laden with everybody’s favorites and always wanted to feed everybody around her.

Frances’s greatest joy in life was her faith in Jesus and loving and serving her family well. She leaves a legacy of love to her two daughters, Sandra Frances Meek Wilkes and husband, Larry, from Canton, Ga., and Shirley Meek Williams and husband Carl of Fayetteville, Ga. The lights of her life were her four grandsons, John C. (Trip) Wilkes, III, William Jeremy Wilkes, Matthew David Meek- Williams, Joshua Daniel Meek- Williams, and his wife, Katie Jones Williams. Time spent with them was her greatest joy.

Frances is survived by all four of her siblings whom she loved beyond measure: Her beloved brother and soul mate, Hugh Baisel Cromer of Forsyth Ga., and sisters Helen Cromer Littlejohn of Conyers, Marie Cromer Clements Jakeway of Viera, Fla., and Marie Cromer Jones of Norcross, Ga., along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, at Mowell Funeral Home in Fayetteville, Ga. with burial to follow in Macon Memorial Park in Macon at 1 p.m. Frances’s beloved friend from her Macon days, Rev. Joe McDaniel officiated. Memorials may be made to the Methodist Children’s Home in Macon, Ga.
