Ernest Mcclellan “Mac” Overholt, 88 of Peachtree City, Ga., formerly of Vero Beach, Fla. and Huntington, W.Va., passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013 in Doctors Hospice, Fayetteville, Ga. after a brief illness. He was born July 18, 1924 in Latrobe, Pa., a son of the late Ernest M. and Jean McClure Overholt.

Mac graduated from Scottdale High School in 1942, began college at Bucknell University, and was drafted his first semester into the Army. Following basic training, he attended the University of Wyoming for a year as part of the ASTP (Army Specialized Training Program) to become an engineer. The war ended in 1945 and Mac returned to Bucknell where he met his wife Shirley Winning. They were married in 1948 and graduated together from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa. in 1949. After forty-seven years of marriage, Shirley died of cancer on July 23, 1995.

His work experiences began with Republic Steel and US Steel and later he worked for General Motors and 3M until his retirement. In retirement, Mac worked as a real estate agent for Century 21, an accounting instructor in community colleges in Florida, and as a substitute teacher for Indian River County Schools. He enjoyed playing golf, bridge, and was a member of many clubs and volunteer organizations. He was also a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and the First Presbyterian Church of Peachtree City.

Mac is survived by his loving family; his daughter, Joann O. Gainer of Summersville, WV; his son, Scott M. Overholt and his wife Suzanne (Suzie) of Wilson, N.C.; and their children, Molly and Andrew (Drew); his sister, Phyllis O. Lewellyn of Marietta, Ga.; his two brothers-in-law, Samuel F. King of Sun City, SC and James W. Winning and his wife Rosemary of Uniontown, Pa.; and nine nieces nephews.

Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the Robert B. Ferguson Funeral Home, 105 Spring Street, Scottdale, Pa. (724-887-5300 / www.fergusonfunerals.com). A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2013 in Scottdale Cemetery, Scottdale, Pa. with Pastor Robert Bixel officiating.
