Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a man who entered the home a north central Fayette County woman Tuesday morning and assaulted and raped her.

Sheriff Barry Babb in an April 25 press release said deputies on Tuesday responded to the area of Paula Drive and Ellison Road in reference to a reported rape. The homeowner called 911 at approximately 10 a.m. saying that a man had entered her home and assaulted her, according to the press release.

The victim while receiving treatment at Piedmont Fayette Hospital told investigators she had been assaulted and raped, said Babb.

Deputies arriving at the scene found a large, mixed breed dog on the front porch and no signs of forced entry, though officers after announcing themselves and entering the home found the homeowner sitting on the floor of the dining room with her legs drawn up to her chest, according to reports.

The woman described the man as being a slender white male in his 30s with dark curly hair and wearing a cap and black hoodie and jogging pants, Babb said.

Deputies asked the woman if she knew who assaulted her and she responded that she did not. Deputies then searched and cleared the house, Babb said.

The victim told deputies she had gone out for a short while. Upon returning home, she entered through the front door and found the man in her kitchen. The victim said she did not know the man and had never seen him before, said Babb.

The victim told investigators she did not see a vehicle after the man ran out of her house, Babb said.

Babb said deputies searched the surrounding area but were unable to located the suspect. Investigators at the scene brought in K-9 units and utilized the Hawk I helicopter along with having deputies conducting an extensive ground search over a period of several hours.

Babb said there have been no similar incidents reported in the county, adding that investigators are communicating with law enforcement agencies outside the county.

Babb said the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information pertaining to this crime or the suspect is asked to contact Det. Gunter at 770-716-4814.
