Martha Fusilier Magruder, 77 of Mandeville, LA died on Jan. 10, 2013.
Mrs. Magruder was born on Jan. 25, 1935 in Ville Platte, La. She received a nursing degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1957.
Mrs. Magruder married Dr. Lloyd M. “Mack” Magruder Jr. on Nov. 24, 1957 and was preceded in death by him. Miss Martha worked as a registered nurse at Ochsner Foundation Hospital, Southeast Louisiana Hospital, and later became as an infectious disease control nurse / consultant or, as she would say, a ‘bug lady’. She taught psychiatric nursing classes at Southwestern Louisiana University (now Louisiana Lafayette University). She did not fully retire from nursing until a year before her death. Mrs. Magruder was a devout Catholic who participated in volunteer and charitable activities such as at a cancer center near her home in Louisiana. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren, an avid gardener and dog lover.
Mrs. Magruder is survived by her son Lloyd M. “Trey” Magruder III, his wife Jeanne M. Magruder and their children Caroline, Mary-Katherine and Lloyd M. “Marc” Magruder IV; her daughter Susan Magruder Hoey, her husband Charles G. Hoey, and their children William “Mac” Price, Matthew B. Hoey and Adam C. Hoey; her son Ian G. Magruder, his wife Michelle W. Magruder and their daughter Danielle Magruder; her sisters Mary F. Harrison, Patricia F. McCawley, and Frieda Fusilier; was preceded in death by her brother Joseph Fusilier; and survived by many other loving family members and friends.
In accordance with her wishes, Mrs. Magruder’s remains have been cremated. Arrangements for the memorial service in Louisiana have not been made yet.
