The Peachtree City Police Department will host its next Community Emergency Response Team class beginning March 7.

Classes will be held Thursdays from 6:30 to 9 p.m. for 10 weeks at police headquarters.

CERT teaches residents how to prepare themselves and their family for hazards that may affect the community. Participants will be trained in basic disaster response skills including fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations.

The program ends with a mock disaster exercise so participants can put into action what they have learned during the program.

There is no charge to attend the class but the size will be limited to 2 participants. Prospective candidates must be at least 18 years old and a resident of Georgia.

Applications are available by clicking on the CERT link at www.peachtree-city.org/police and also at the library, city hall and police department. The application deadline is Feb. 26.

The program has trained well over 100 individuals in the community so far, including teens who are specially targeted in a Teen CERT class.
