The man who died in an early morning house fire Dec. 23 in north Peachtree City is believed to be the homeowner, Steve Russell, 39.

As of press time Friday, the state medical examiner’s office had not completed the process of identifying the victim who was discovered in the blaze, police said. Russell’s family, however, has announced that his memorial service was scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday at Peachtree City United Methodist Church.

Police have not said whether foul play is suspected and an investigation is underway into the cause of the fire at 104 Adams Fall in the Spooner Ridge subdivision, which was reported around 5:30 a.m. Dec. 23. Most of the house was engulfed in flames when the first fire crew arrived, officials said.

The home received heavy damage as the blaze ate through the entire second floor. Firefighters were unable to enter the home to battle the fire due to the intensity of the flames, but they were able to keep the fire from spreading to two nearby homes.

Russell is survived by his former wife, Sarah Russell, son Andrew Russell and daughter Emily Russell along with his father, stepmother and brother.
