A man who led sheriff’s deputies on a brief chase into south Peachtree City Oct. 29 and managed to get away on foot is now in custody.
Tony Perry, 36, faces multiple charges from not just Fayette County but also other jurisdictions, officials said.
Perry was located at an apartment complex in Clayton County by the U.S. Marshals Department Fugitive Task Force Friday, Nov. 16, but he hid inside, claiming he was armed. That led to a brief standoff and a call to the Clayton County Sheriff’s Department, which brought its SWAT unit to arrest Perry inside the apartment, officials said.
Perry led sheriff’s deputies on a brief chase Oct. 29 after stealing a car from the QuikTrip convenience store in north Fayette County. The chase began when a deputy spotted a vehicle matching the lookout broadcast on the stolen vehicle, and Perry sped away northward on Ga. Highway 74, veering into oncoming traffic before ditching the car in a wooded area near the city’s Baseball and Soccer Complex.
Perry got away on foot and managed to elude capture at the time. But thanks to some excellent detective work from a Fayette sheriff’s deputy attached to the fugitive task force, Perry was located and apprehended, according to Gavin Duffy, supervisory inspector with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.
“He did a great job tracking this guy down,” Duffy said.
Here in Fayette County, Perry faces charges including theft by taking motor vehicle, theft by receiving stolen property, reckless driving, driving the wrong way, speeding, obstruction of a police officer, fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer, a red light violation and driving with a suspended license.
