The Coweta County Board of Education is looking for input from parents on which of two proposed school calendars should be adopted for the next two school years. Public comment can be made online on the school system’s website.

School system spokesman Dean Jackson said the school board anticipates adopting calendars for the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 school years at its Dec. 11 meeting.

Jackson said the school board reviewed two versions of those calendars at the November board meeting and has requested public comment on those calendars as it prepares to make a final decision next month.

Version 1 of the calendars has a shorter February (mid-winter) break and begins the school year slightly later in August.

Version 2 of the calendars has a full week February (mid-winter) break and begins the school year slightly earlier in August.

The two versions also distribute teacher work days differently, Jackson said.

Both calendars maintain a full week for Thanksgiving break, two weeks for the Christmas and New Year’s break and a full week for Spring break in the first full week of April. Both calendars also end the school year for students before Memorial Day.

The proposed calendars versions can be viewed on the school system’s website, at www.cowetaschools.org. An online survey can also be accessed from that site. The survey is open for public comment until Dec. 5.
