Ruth Marie Sams Cranford, 86, of Fayetteville, went home to be with her Lord on November 7, 2012.
Ruth was born June 24, 1926 in Charlotte, N.C., to Wendell and Selma Furr Sams, the fourth of their ten children. She grew up in Atlanta and was a resident of Fayette County, Ga. since 1979.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. After graduating from Commercial High School, she joined the Civilian Nurse Corp and trained at Grady Hospital to help the nursing shortage during WWII. She was called out of training due to family needs, but continued to work in the medical field until she retired. Music was important to her, and she used her beautiful voice to praise God and minister to others from the time she was a child until her death. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Cranford.
She is survived by her children: daughter Kay Boris of McDonough, Ga.; daughter Jackie and husband Ed Sherwood of Peachtree City, Ga.; son Randy and wife Teresa Cranford of Tyrone, Ga.. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, a sister, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family received friends in the chapel of Fayetteville First Baptist Church at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012. The memorial service followed at 4:30 p.m. Ruth will be interred at her husband’s grave in College Park at a later date.
