Representative Bob Barr to speak at Republican breakfast

Bob Barr, who will be the guest speaker at the Fayette County Republican Party’s October First Saturday Breakfast, represented the 7th District of Georgia in the U. S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 2003.  Prior to being elected to Congress, he was appointed by President Reagan as the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia in 1986 and served in that capacity until 1990.  Barr then served as President of the Southeastern Legal Foundation during 1990 and 1991.  Representative Barr is Chairman of Liberty Guard, Inc. a non-profit and non-partisan organization dedicated to protecting individual liberty and he serves as a board member for Privacy International, a privacy watchdog group headquartered in London. Recognizing Bob Barr’s leadership in privacy matters, former New York Times columnist William Safire called him “Mr. Privacy.”  

Barr has appeared on virtually every major cable and network television program dealing with public policy matters and has hosted a nationally-syndicated weekly radio show.  Congressman Barr has been a regular contributor for CNN, a columnist and blogger for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and  is the author of three books: “The Meaning of Is: The Squandered Impeachment and Wasted Legacy of William Jefferson Clinton,” “Patriot Nation: Bob Barr’s Laws of the Universe Volume One,” and “Lessons in Liberty.”

After first supporting fellow Georgian Newt Gingrich during the primaries, on May 18, 2012, Congressman Barr wrote, “Our country truly cannot afford four more years of President Obama’s divisive and failed leadership…. Governor Mitt Romney will chart a course to get our nation back on the right track….I am pleased to support and endorse Governor Mitt Romney for President.” 

Barr was awarded his law degree from Georgetown University; his master’s degree from George Washington University and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California.  He now practices law in Atlanta and lives with his wife Jeri in Cobb County.
