Long-time Optimist Club member and Senoia resident Hal Sewell has been elected to serve as Governor-Elect of Georgia District of Optimist International beginning Oct. 1.
“I’m very proud of what Optimist International does to help youth and the clubs’ local communities around the world,” Sewell told Optimist members at a recent statewide meeting. “I am humbled that you have asked me to take this position. I’ll also tell you, I’m more than a little nervous and scared. I only ask for your support as we all work together to bring out the best in kids. With your help and God’s strength, we will achieve greatness together.”
Sewell was nominated by the district’s Candidate Qualifications Committee, headed this year by Mark Shriver, a past president of the Optimist International organization headquartered in St. Louis, Illinois.
Sewell first joined Optimist International in June 1985 when the Optimist Club of Senoia was chartered. He served as the new club’s charter president and has served the club as president on a number of other occasions.
On two occasions Sewell served the Georgia District as Lt. Governor for the local Zone that currently includes Optimist Clubs in Fayetteville, Peachtree City, Senoia, Newnan, LaGrange and Columbus.
