Zachary “Marty” Sandlin, 57, of Peachtree City, Ga. passed away Monday morning September 3, 2012 at his home due to complications from cancer. He was born on July 28, 1955, the oldest of 5 children in Savannah, Ga.
Throughout his life, Marty was a true believer that it is not what you receive in life but what you do for others that brings you the greatest happiness in this life on Earth. He coached football, baseball, and basketball for his children throughout the years. As an Eagle Scout himself, he remained heavily involved with the Boy Scouts of America as a Scoutmaster and other roles. Marty lived life to the fullest and was always known for being the life of a party. In his short time on Earth, he traveled around the world, visiting places like China, Malaysia, Russia, and Indonesia. He enjoyed hiking, camping, woodwork, Florida Gator football, playing golf and pickleball, but above all else spending time with his wife of almost 31 years, children, grandchildren, and friends.
Marty is survived by his wife, Gail of Peachtree City; older son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Sheila Sandlin, and their children Nash and Tessa of Columbus Ohio; daughter Whitney Sandlin, of Marietta, Ga.; younger son Tyson Sandlin, of Atlanta, Ga.; his father and stepmother, Zach and Julie Sandlin, of Evans, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law Tim and Karen Sandlin; brother Jeff Sandlin; sister and brother-in-law Rose and Tom Carraway; brother and sister-in-law Steve and Jennie Sandlin; nephews Jason, Sean, Grant, Lawson and Timmy; niece Cassie. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ann Edelberg.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 8, 2012 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Flat Creek Country Club in Peachtree City, Ga.
