Lane closures start on Hwy. 85S at Porter Rd.

Lane closures on Ga. HIghway 85 south near Porter Road are planned starting today through Aug. 10 as a contractor works on a resurfacing project, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The lane closures will run from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily including this weekend, weather permitting. Porter Road is located south of Bernhard Road where the DOT is installing a traffic signal and several turn lanes to improve traffic flow.

Motorists should prepare for delays and avoid travel in the area if possible. The DOT also suggests drivers go slower in the construction zone which will be marked by barrels and cones.

Part of the slowdown is needed to protect the safety of personnel and equipment that will be operating in close proximity to travel lanes, officials said.
