Ruth H. Cook passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 20, 2012, after a brief illness. She was 89 years of age.
Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John (Jack) Richard Cook, as well as her parents George and Leonie Hausamann.
Ruth is survived by her two children, Barbara R. Sudol of Oak Ridge, N.J.; Jack R. Cook and his wife Diane M. Cook of Peachtree City, Ga., as well as three grandchildren, Kevin Sudol, Michael Cook and Emily Cook.
Ruth was born in New York City on July 17, 1922 and grew up in Bloomfield and Hasbrouck Heights, N. J. She enjoyed speaking of her Dad’s travels and engineering career with Eclipse Pioneer and later the Bendix Corporation. The nine months Ruth spent in Germany visiting family was one of her fondest childhood memories.
Upon graduating from Hasbrouck Heights High School, Ruth attended and graduated from Catherine Gibbs Secretarial College. She went on to have a 12 year career as an Executive Secretary at Texas Gulf Sulpher Company in New York City.
Ruth married John (Jack) R. Cook, a veteran of World War II, on May 25, 1946. Jack earned his law degree from Rutgers University and was an attorney for the Bendix Corporation. Ruth left her position at Texas Gulf to raise her two children and take care of her mother who lived with them. Upon Jack’s retirement, Ruth and Jack enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the world.
After her husband passed, Ruth relocated with her son Jack and daughter-in-law Diane to Peachtree City, Ga., where she enjoyed living with them. In her new life as a “Southern Belle,” she embraced everything from Sweet Tea to rides on the golf cart with the grandkids.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 23, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Carl J. Mowell & Son, Peachtree City, Ga. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Southern Crescent Alzheimer Association, P. O. Box 2144, Peachtree City, Ga. 30269.
