National Heights Baptist Church in Fayetteville will host a “Shred Day” Saturday, May 5, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church.

There will be no charge to the public for shredding but donations will be accepted.

The church has hired “Shred-It,” one of Georgia’s largest professional shredding companies to manage the shredding.

Documents and papers acceptable for shredding include outdated or sensitive information such as medical and financial records, credit card statements, cancelled checks, insurance forms, old tax returns, and any other personal documents. Staples or paper clips do not have to be removed before shredding, but documents should be taken out of binders and notebooks to avoid jamming the shredding machines.

“We host a Shred Day to help local residents keep their identities safe,” explained Barrett Owen, pastor of National Heights. “It is so important that we offer this service not just for our members, but for our whole community. Protection from identification fraud is just one of the ways we seek to follow jesus’s command to “love our neighbors as ourselves.”

No advance registration is needed to participate. The church is on the corner of Old Norton Road and Ga. Highway 54 across from the Sandy Creek Road intersection.
