The Coweta County Board of Education on April 17 named new principals who will assume their posts on July 1. Dr. Schwanda Jackson was appointed to serve as principal of East Coweta Middle School and Vicki Vaughan was appointed to be the new principal of Arnco-Sargent Elementary School.

Coweta County School System spokesman Dean Jackson said the school board made the appointments at a called meeting on April 17. Both appointments will become effective on July 1.

Dr. Jackson, an 18-year educator, previously served as the assistant principal at East Coweta High School and will assume the responsibility as principal at East Coweta Middle School, taking over for Dr. Nancy Cook, who is retiring.

Jackson began her career at East Coweta High School in 1994 teaching social studies and coaching high school girls junior varsity basketball. Jackson also taught social studies and served as a high school head girls’ basketball coach from 1996-98 in DeKalb County Schools and 1998-2006 in Griffin-Spalding County Schools. Jackson returned to East Coweta High School in 2006 as an assistant principal.

Jackson earned her Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies from the State University of West Georgia in 1994, her Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision from West Georgia in 2002, her Education Specialist degree in Administration and Supervision from West Georgia in 2004 and her Doctorate in Education Leadership from the University of Alabama in 2007.

Welch Elementary School Assistant Principal Vicki Vaughan, a 14-year educator, will become principal at Arnco-Sargent Elementary School, taking over for Principal Monica Hughes, who is leaving to take another school administrative post within the system.

Vaughan began her education career in 1998 as a 4th grade teacher at Eastside Elementary School and taught 4th grade at Arbor Springs Elementary School from 1999-2003. She taught 5th grade in Whitfield County Schools, in Dalton, from 2003-04 before returning to Coweta County in 2004 as a 5th grade teacher at Newnan Crossing Elementary.

Vaughan became an assistant principal at East Coweta High School in 2007, moving to Willis Road Elementary School as an assistant principal in 2008 and moving to Welch Elementary School in 2009 as an assistant principal.

Vaughan earned her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the State University of West Georgia in 1998, her Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision from West Georgia in 2003 and her Education Specialist degree in Administration and Supervision in 2006 from West Georgia.
