Reader: Thanks for so much satire

I started reading The Citizen Opinion section today (4/11/12) and found myself nonplused until I understood that it was all satire. You really had me going for a few minutes.

There was Vietnam veteran Terry Garlock gushing admiration for Dr. Martin Luther King, a fierce critic of Johnson’s war and an ardent anti-war protestor.

I thought Terry might continue with the tongue-in-cheek and name Jane Fonda as his favorite actress or Bob Dylan and Country Joe McDonald as his favorite musicians.

Then Steve Brown devotes three columns to berating a former commissioner for being inflexible, combative, and headstrong. Perhaps we should start referring to Steve as “Gumby” with his malleable and accommodating style. So rich!

The best was Bill Gilmer who proceeded to shred the U.S. Constitution, disenfranchise whole swaths of voters, and legalize vote purchasing. The kicker was how one must demonstrate an understanding of American civics to join his Utopia.

I expected him to extol the virtues of ignoring the “little people” altogether and letting five conservatives choose the President as we did in 2000.

You missed a good one, Bill.

Thanks again for these comedic detours from the usual long-winded, critical rants and witless narcissism. I loved it.
