Gaines Coker and Jean Raines, members of the Peachtree City Toastmasters, swept the Division L Toastmasters competition on Saturday, March 10. Both will advance to State competition May 4-5.
Gaines competed in the Table Topics Contest, impromptu speaking where the speaker is given a question to be answered in 1-2 minutes. He must formulate an answer that responds directly to the question and maintains the format of a good speech with an opening, body and conclusion.
Jean presented her original speech “A Patriot’s Perspective” as part of the International Speech contest. In her 5-7 minute speech she has a responsibility to say something meaningful and original to the audience. The listeners should feel the speaker has made a contribution to their thinking.
