On Wednesday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m., the Fayette County Public Library kicks off “Evenings with Sir Alfred: A Hitchcock Retrospective,” a free film series showcasing classic selections from the long and illustrious career of Alfred Hitchcock. Twice a month from now through October on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m., the public is invited to relax at the library and enjoy the work of the master of cinematic suspense. Free popcorn will be available for audience members to enjoy.

“We can’t publish the specific titles of the films we’ll be showing,” says Sarah Trowbridge, a public services librarian at Fayette County Public Library and the organizer of film series and other adult programming at the library. “That’s one of the rules of the license that enables us to screen the movies at no cost to the public. All you have to do to find out what’s showing is call the library at 770-461-8841, or stop by and pick up the film series flyer with the full schedule. I can tell you that the series starts April 11 with a 1934 classic that features Peter Lorre. From there the films appear in chronological order, two screenings per month, ending up with Hitchcock’s final film from 1976 on October 17.”

The complete list of screening dates is April 11 and 25, May 9 and 23, June 6 and 20, July 11 and 25, August 8 and 22, September 5 and 19, and October 3 and 17.

All dates are Wednesdays, and every screening begins at 6:30 p.m. A printed schedule for the “Evenings with Sir Alfred” series, including film titles and descriptions, is available for pickup at the library. All movie nights are free and open to the public, thanks to generous support from the Friends of the Fayette County Public Library.

The Fayette County Public Library is located behind the Fayette County administration complex in downtown Fayetteville, at the southwest corner of Highways 85 and 54.
