It is something that only a small number of students accomplish. And for his perfect score on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), Starr’s Mill High School junior Shane Mudrinich was recognized March 19 by the Fayette County Board of Education.
The perfect score of 2,400 came on his second attempt, said school system spokesperson Melinda Berry-Dreisbach. Mudrinich scored 2,300 the first time around.
“I was hoping to get a 2,350. I was incredibly surprised to see I had earned a perfect score. I could have never realistically expected getting it, so even now it doesn’t seem real,” Shane said.
Berry-Dreisbach said Mudrinich prepared for the test by taking SAT prep courses and using a variety of online resources. He also credits his teachers at Starr’s Mill.
“I know they helped me with the test. My English teachers improved my writing skills, my grammar, my vocabulary, etc. And my math teacher this year, Mr. Campbell, makes us do SAT math warm-ups everyday, and they’ve definitely helped,” Mudrinich said.
Mudrinich recommended that all students who plan to take the SAT do some sort of structured preparatory activity within their means.
“School prep classes, tutoring, or Internet sources are all good. There just needs to be some time devoted solely to SAT prep during the week,” he said. The junior did his SAT prep at Huntington Learning Center in Peachtree City.
Mudrinich said he will likely attend Georgia Tech with a probable major in biochemistry, though he is also considering other schools.
