Cancellation of an intersection improvement project at Robinson and Redwine roads will give Peachtree City another $110,000 for street resurfacing projects this fiscal year.

The Peachtree City Council voted unanimously Thursday night to cancel the project and shift the funds to the city’s resurfacing projects.

The intersection does not need a traffic signal at this time, and it was determined that additional turn lanes on Robinson Road would cost more to install than the funding available, officials said. However, the project may be eligible for future funding from the Atlanta Regional Commission and from discretionary funds from the regional transportation sales tax if it passes this summer.

Peachtree City will be getting $469,000 in state funds this year to pave four different projects, including north Peachtree Parkway from Ga. Highway 54 to Ga. Highway 74 and two sections of Dividend Drive in the city’s industrial park. The rest of the funds will be used for “various streets,” according to the city’s plan.

The state funds will come from the Georgia Department of Transportation’s Local Assistance Road Program.
