With little discussion, the Peachtree City Council tabled a decision Thursday on potential traffic calming measures for the intersections of Tinsley Mill and Loring Lane roads on Peachtree Parkway.
Councilman Eric Imker asked city staff if the turn lanes were warranted for the intersections, and City Engineer David Borkowski said they were.
The matter was pushed off to the April 5 council meeting, as a decision is expected soon due to the impending resurfacing of north Peachtree Parkway from Ga. Highway 54 to Ga. Highway 74.
Last August, city staff presented several options that would accomplish the goal of slowing traffic, including mini-roundabouts. Now staff is collecting data with speed studies of the area and the potential crash reduction factors on each various traffic calming device.
The options discussed in August included traffic calming medians to slow cars down, a three-way stop, a compact roundabout and the addition of a left turn lane for southbound motorists. City staff recommended using the traffic medians, which would shift the road path slightly to slow traffic.
The traffic medians were also the least costly to construct.
The resurfacing project is expected to cost the city $319,200 after a $180,799 contribution from the Georgia Department of Transportation. The city’s share will come from its remaining transportation sales tax funds.
