Two Fayetteville girls attending the Feb. 24 basketball tournament at Fayette County High School are facing charges after fighting in the gym.

Both girls are age 15, according to Fayetteville Police Maj. Kevin Gooding. Both are being charged with affray, obstruction and disruption of a public school, Gooding said.

The incident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. inside the gym on the upper level after the tournament between Fayette County High School and Lovejoy High School ended.

Gooding said officers on duty saw a large crowd gathering and went to investigate. They found two juvenile girls fighting, Gooding said.

Officers secured one of the girls, Gooding said, adding that the other girl initially ran away from officers when they arrived to break up the fight.
