I just want to address quickly a point that Mayor Haddix made in his speech to the Peachtree City Rotary Club. Here is the excerpt from The Citizen article:
“Haddix said he was able to work with the state Department of Transportation to get three projects on the final regional transportation sales tax list.
“’Yet I was accused of being negative and unable to work with GDOT. The facts speak for themselves and the position is false,’ Haddix said.”
In reality, the third project, the Macduff Parkway extension was placed on the list due to the leadership of County Commission Chairman Herb Frady and Fayetteville Mayor Ken Steele.
They agreed to switch the Hood Avenue project and have it funded by local SPLOST dollars, allowing the MacDuff Parkway extension to be added. Neither of them had to do this but they showed real leadership by looking out for the county as a whole. Now if the Transportation Investment Act passes, Peachtree City will get an additional project.
Mayor Haddix was initially opposed to the adding of the MacDuff Extension Parkway project but eventually, along with other Council members, voted for it. Mr. Frady and Mr. Steele took it to the Regional Transportation Roundtable where it was added to the Fayette County project list.
I find it strange that the Mayor is claiming credit for the projects when he is actively campaigning against the funding for those projects.
The real credit for the MacDuff Parkway project belongs to Mr. Frady and Mr. Steele.
I appreciate their efforts on behalf of Peachtree City.
