In place of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church’s (FFUMC) 2011 Tour of Homes, members will host a silent auction and dinner before the Candlelight Concert on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 5 p.m. This year marks the 12th performance of the Candlelight Concert featuring violinist Sonja Squires and pianist Rick Massengale.

Along with all of the great instrumentalists, the concert will feature vocalists Kristy Cline and Dr. Franklin Green.

“This is the highlight of my musical year,” said Rick Massengale, music director. “To think we started so small in the chapel and to have seen it grow over the years to what we now have is exciting. It’s a thrill to work with so many great musicians and vocalists and then to be able to offer a concert to the community. To see the way the community has responded to our concert is very gratifying.”

Dinner reservations are required and may be made by calling the church office, 770-461-4313. In lieu of dinner ticket sales, donations will be accepted.

A variety of baskets will be available to bid on at the silent auction during dinner. The auction will end at 6 p.m. and the concert will begin at 6:30 p.m.

All proceeds for the event will benefit three mission projects: Meals on Wheels, the FFUMC Preschool Scholarship Fund and 2012 Belize Mission Trip.

Meals on Wheels is a needs-based program for homebound seniors who are unable to purchase or prepare a nutritious meal for themselves. Each year, nearly 200 community volunteers deliver more than 40,000 nutritionally balanced meals to Fayette County seniors. More importantly, it provides a connection with the outside community and a daily “check-in” to ensure client safety and well-being, and essential needs are being met.

The FFUMC Preschool Scholarship Fund will assist low income working families or families in financial crisis with scholarships so that their children can receive a quality, preschool education in a Christian environment.

The 2012 Belize Mission includes a team of volunteers who will travel to Belize in the summer of 2012 to engage in a number of mission projects with area residents, including a medical mission, a building program, and a Vacation Bible School for the children.
